Ambrette seed CO2 is a clean carbon dioxide extraction from Hibiscus flowers. This is usually a perfumers ingredient as it adds a sweet, musk, animalic note.

We have a new, Peruvian CO2 of this wonderfully beautiful and interesting Hibiscus flower seed.

CO2 extraction is a great method of removing the aromatic constituents—with a more complex and interesting notes than one can get through distillation or solvent extraction.

The scent of this ambrette is reminiscent of time standing still, nostalgia and discovery. But I’ll write a proper perfumery description from Arctander.

Arctander says

Rich, sweet, floral-musky, distinct wine-like or brandy-like odor develops with a bouquet and roundness seldom seen in any other perfume material.

I will interject here, that this CO2 has more notes and subtilties than this description of the essential oil.

He goes on to say that the odor has some notes in common with cypress, clary sage, rose, and cognac. He says there are certain tobacco-like and “overripe fruit”-like notes with great similarity to higher esters of decyl alcohol. The tenacity is almost incredible and as a flavor material it also displays features which are quite unique. One part of Ambrette Seed oil in ten million parts of neutral sweetened fluid is distinctly recognizable to the taste.

Ambrette seed is applicable in perfumes of the more sophisticated type. Blends particularly well with rose, neroli, sandalwood, methyliones, cyclamal, hydroxycitronellal and aliphatic aldehydes.

Ambrette seed adds the “exhalting” effect imparted to perfumes and the unique bouquet it brings to perfumes and flavors.

Ambrette seed is sometimes spoken of interchangeably with musk. That’s referring to “musk ambrette” and that is a synthetic ingredient, banned now in many countries, and the point of is a substitute for animal musk.
