Arctander says
Davana oil is a very dark green or brownish green, like other artemisia oils. It's odor is sharp, pendtrating, bitter-green, foliage-like and powerfully herbaceous with a sweet-balsamic, tenacious undertone. At the time of Arctander's writing (1960,) davana was a new oil and not much had been done with it. He does recommend blending with fougère, and chypre materials which contain oikmoss, labdanum, etc, but this has a lot to do with the color.
