Also called tickbush, this oil is steam distilled from Australian wildcrafted plants, where it’s endemic.

This is more of an aromatherapy oil, rather than a perfume ingredient, and there is no Arctander listing.

He writes microbiological tests have shown Kunzea to be effective against Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, E. coli, and Candida albicans.

Historically, early pioneers and hunters noticed native animals often slept under Kunzea, surmising that the reason might have been that these animals were infected by ticks and other mites and bush insects, from the tree, and gave it the nickname “tickbush”. However, now it’s thought to be the opposite, meaning that native animals sought refuge from the bloodthirsty creatures by sleeping under the Kunzea trees.
