Michelia Alba

White Magnolia

China distilled

There's a bunch of confusion between this oil and Champaka, and I'm included here. But although both are Michelia, they vary enough in the species to offer both.

According to Arctander

In 1961, China was apparently already exporting this, for their perfume industry. But they were supposedly exporting champaka; he suspects it was the alba instead. One can imagine this would have included China's Great Leap Forward, and most likely dropped off during the Cultural Revolution.

This is a relatively new flower for us, and we are delighted to welcome it into our small stable of distilled white flowers. In China, its uses include use as a tea, and in TCM, the flowers are used to move chi and relieve cough.
