Canarium luzonicum

This oil has been wildcrafted in the Philippines.

Elemi is a natural oleoresin and consists only of resin and essential oil. So, like frankincense, elemi is not a "gum." It is realted to myrrh, frankincense, opoponax and is an exudate of a pathological product from the tree.  The scent is warmer, softer and higher than Frankincense.

The oil is steam distilled, from the crude elemi, which has been solvent extracted from the crude oleoresin, and the solvent removed with a vacuum.

This oil is very harmonizing and so a good choice to turn to when feeling stressed and irritated. Maybe they should pump it through the subways.

Arctander says

Crude elemi is a semi-solid, pale yellow, waxy, honey-like mass and the odor is clean-fresh, terpeney, peppery-lemony, with a woody-balsamic background note. The essential oil is colorless to pale yellow, mobile, and has a light, fresh, lemon-like peppery odor which later dries out into a balsamic, slightly green-woody and sweet-spicy, pleasant note.

Although it's not the most stable oil, its useful as a freshner and a topnote in various perfume compositions, bleding particularly well with cinnamon bark, frankincense, labdanum, rosemary, lavandin, sage.
