Howdy
I’m pleased that one of the perks of the new website is easy access to older blogs. I missed writing them.
The question is ……which oils do I bring with me when travelling? This obviously depends on what you like, where you go, and what I mean is it’s personal, of course. Don’t stress if you don’t have one of these. As a matter of fact, I forgot my tea tree somewhere and I always, usually carry tea tree, so I’ll recommend it. This is not medical advice!
Here in my lovely picture you will see what I brought with me to Bangkok.
Lavender. This is obvious, obviously. I brought our Fine, which is a population lavender (as compared to a clonal). It’s angustifolia. Lavender is always good, to back up your tea tree for bites and stings, it’s soothing and relaxing, destressing. Lavender is the first oil in the shower, for me. I put a couple/few drops of lavender, (and eucalyptus) on the washcloth and get in that shower. It’s well tolerated on the skin and helpful for almost every incidence. Use a drop on your pillow.
Eucalyptus. in this case, I have radiata, although globulus would also do nicely. A eucalyptus steam will help your lungs clear out a bit. Cities nowadays are so incredibly polluted, that eucalyptus in a hot shower will be welcome and excellent.
Immortelle-Yes, I’m one of those people. I bring helichrysum/immortelle/everlasting everywhere just in case. Any kind of a cut, nick, bite, after you get it with tea tree and/or lavender, immortelle is the next level of defense. Recommended for first aid, stimulating the circulatory system, and it's psychologically uplifting.
Thyme Thuyanol. There are various times for various thymes (sorry) and I will carry whichever thyme I have handy, but I usually make sure it’s this one. As you probably know, Thyme vulgaris is very “hot” and will react on your skin if you use it undiluted so the thuyanol subspecies is a better choice all around. It is usually well tolerated directly on the skin and can even be used on children. I will also carry Thyme linalool if that’s what I have but I prefer the thuyanol.
Douglas Fir-This more about love. I love this oil; Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii). People say it helps with cold and flu and I’m sure it does but these strong and glorious trees just give me a leg up. Strength. Fortitude. I will sometimes just do a couple of drops of Douglas fir and a couple of Frankincense—donning a cloak of strength, so to speak. Both of these oils are helpers; giving strength, acting as crutches, solid ancient trunks of wisdom and knowledge.
Frankincense is obviously the next oil because of course it is. People say it’s a meditation guide, helpful with the joints, respiratory, and I agree with all of it. To me, however, frankincense is something I seldom go anywhere without. Our frankincense is hydro-distilled by us, Enfleurage, in the Sultanate of Oman. Boswellia sacra. We are very close.
Agarwood. The last oil you see here is not something I don't usually take with me anymore although we were best friends for years, many years ago. The reasons are complicated but there are reasons, and they are not pertinent here. This oud is Laotian, and it’s been our basic oud oil since the 1990s. I’m in Bangkok, so obviously………..
This is just a suggestion, a quick rough guide. You can bring as few or as many as you like, My quick and easy selection covers all needs, except for that Tea Tree, which you should add. You might consider other oils more necessary, or whatever. Don’t worry about it. Just grab your essential oils and get out there in the world. See what you can while you can
This cute essential oil case is rom my friend C. I don’t know where he got it, but he definitely got me! I carry it everywhere
