Current stock:

Pimento officinalis

Farmed in Jamaica and steam distilled from crushed, unripe but mature berries and leaves.

The scent is warm, conforting and spicy, like a mix of different spices, which is one reason it's called allspice!

Arctander says:

Pimenta berry oil is a pale yellow liquid with a warm-spicy, sweet note, presenting a peculiar, but fresh and clean top-note, and with a long-lasting, sweet, balsamic-spicy body-note with a tea-like undertone. There is a certain resemblence to clove bud oil in the slightly sour-fresh, fruity topnote. Avoid dryness in the odor, any lack of sweet freshness and dullness in the dry down, should arouse the suspicion of the evaluator. The flavor of pimenta berry oil is equally warm, sweet, not burning, slightly peppery, but not dry. The odor of the air over the liquid flavored with pimenta berry is initially light and fresh. This is typical of the berry and for this reason it's traditionall used in heavier fruit flavors--the main culinary use if to flavor meat, pickles, etc. Remember this book was written in 1962.

In perfumery, pimenta berry oil is often used as a modifer in modern "spicy" men's colognes and after shave. It blends well with ginger, geranium, neroli, lavender, opoponax, labdanum, ylang ylang, cinnamon, patchouli and orris.

Battaglia does not include this oil in his book, The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy. But we can say that any aromatherapeutic uses would find themselves in blends suited to the digestive system, as an anti-oxident, digestive and as an overall tonic.

Main constituents are cineol, caryophyllene, eugenol, methyl eugenol, and phellandrene.

Safety Warning

Do not use this oil undiluted on skin as it may cause a reaction if used full strength. Don't use undiluted in the bath.
